Goodbyes And New Beginnings

I never wanted to have to write about the loss of my friend and mentor Sheila Arellano.  Sheila was the face of the Escalon Chamber of Commerce in all of its many forms.  The last few years she has acted as Historian for the current Chamber and could tell wonderful stories of the evolution of events and activity led by the Chamber.   Earlier this year she was still attending meetings regularly and always volunteered to help in whatever activity was planned.  One of her favorite events was Christmas on Main where she and husband Peter would hand out the makings of smores.  This year her husband Pete will act as the Grand Marshall of the parade.  We thank her for all of her years of support and love for all things Escalon.

Decorated pumpkins and homemade costumes contests celebrated the end of this year’s Sunday in the Park events.  Plans are already in the works for next year with new volunteers taking on the organizing.  We want to thank all of the people who made these afternoons fun for the community families and to the folks who provided the pumpkins, hotdogs and ice cream and other goodies at each event.  Another event in the park that we initiated tho year was selling spaces for families to use during the Citywide yard sale. Four booths provided a variety of good stuff to buy and the Chamber had doughnut holes and coffee for the early birds.

Next on the list of events is Christmas on Main - December13th and the committee is already hard at work to bring joy to the children and families of Escalon.  Details will be provided on the website in the coming days.  We will have applications for vendors and parade entries and encourage the nonprofits in the area to provide activities for the kids to participate in.

We have a new addition to the Board, Ashley Peterson who will be replacing Annie Gallagher as Treasurer.  Be on the lookout for membership renewal invoices coming soon.  We believe this will help keep our membership lists more current and reliable.    Annie will be scheduling regular coffees and mixers as we enter the new year giving an opportunity for merchants to meet and greet and support one another.  You are invited to attend our Chamber meetings to see the new faces involved and become part of growing our support for the business and community of Escalon.

As always Think Escalon First.
