Having survived the Fourth with my terrified Yorkie and the crash of my regular computer, the one with my completed blog, I am ready to have a fun and productive July.
Park Fete preparation is all but completed and there is a lot to celebrate as it has plans for more activities for the kids, new vendors and local musicians. Added this year will be more games for kids, and a performing clown.
The Second Annual Sidewalk Art Contest will be conducted at the completion of the Power House Dancers performance starting in front of 1830 Main Street. There will be three age group divisions 3 - 6, 7 – 14 and over 15. Prizes will be awarded for each division. Day of Registration begins at 12:30.
Troubling times have arrived to several cities in our area as the frivolous lawsuit people are on the prowl again. Although they hit Escalon a while back, we are making every effort to educate our merchants on how to prepare for another attack. Council member Swift and I attended a gathering with around 200 area merchants, legislators and attorneys who shared information on just how these lawyers and their teams work. The fact that just one thing out of compliance could cost the merchant $4000 per day until fixed is frightening. We sat with Julie Griffiths from Stop Lawsuit Abuse who said that one of the first lines of defense is to make sure that handicap parking spots are completely up to code which includes listing the cost of the fine. Get informed and take action.
Thank you to all of you who took the time to like our Facebook page and share it with your friends. We pass on information and to promote local events on a regular basis. We also encourage checking out the website and joining the Chamber. There is always a need for extra hands and creative minds to add new dimensions to our activities.
Make sure to put Sunday in the Park July 13th from 11-3 on your calendar, and as always Think Escalon First.
